1. Patrick Mahomes’ progression

There’s a widely held belief out there that claims Mahomes’ production level is destined to decline in his second season as a starter. That may be true in terms of his raw statistics, but there’s no reason to believe he can’t be a more efficient quarterback this season.

In fact, under Reid’s watchful eye that is actually the more likely development. There’s no guarantee that Mahomes is going to throw 50 touchdowns again this year, but he may take a step forward in terms of managing risk for the offense.

That should be a scary though for the rest of the NFL. This offense was downright amazing last season. If Mahomes takes a step forward this year, there’s no limit to what the group can accomplish. The loss of Kareem Hunt could harm Mahomes, but the return of Tyreek Hill is huge for his potential productivity. Hill has plenty of issues off the field, but he can turn short passes into long touchdowns between the lines.

The simple truth is that Mahomes is talented enough to elevate all of the players around him on offense. Last year was effectively his rookie season given how little he played during his first year in the NFL. It’s rational to expect him to improve with more experience. Don’t buy into the hype that he’s destined to take a step back in 2019. Progression is a distinct possibility for Mahomes.
