PSG Féminines have added a talented 23-year-old attacking player in Karina Sævik, who is coming off of a strong World Cup performance for Norway.

Though Barcelona newcomer Caroline Graham Hansen stole the show for Norway at the 2019 Women’s World Cup, another standout attacking midfielder will be making her way to one of the world’s top club teams for the upcoming season.

PSG Féminines have officially announced the purchase of Karina Sævik from the Norwegian Toppserien’s Kolbotn.

Per PSG, the 23-year-old will be under contract for two seasons until the end of June 2021. Sævik can work herself into an important position for the club in two years and use that to get a better contract from either PSG or another top club.

Sævik’s stock is at its highest right now after a solid World Cup campaign, which included a stellar outing in Norway’s knockout stage victory over Australia. Although she was substituted late in the match, she had a picture-perfect assist for Norway’s lone goal in the 31st minute, setting up Isabell Herlovsen wonderfully. Her passing consistently caused Australia’s makeshift defense issues, as she gave Norway a huge boost in right midfield.

Furthermore, Sævik is coming off of a strong campaign domestically as well. She scored seven goals for Kolbotn last season, finishing fifth in the league overall. When omitting penalties, Sævik was fourth in goals per 90 minutes. This comes one year after she scored nine goals as a 21-year-old.

Sævik can play as either a forward or anywhere in midfield, and that versatile will help PSG’s bench over the next two seasons. PSG are one of the top clubs in the world, as they are second to only fellow Ligue 1 giants Lyon in terms of overall prestige.

While signing Sævik is unlikely to lead to PSG ending Lyon’s dominant reign in France, the 23-year-old has a great deal of upside and should be a quality contributor to the squad’s depth. She has a great chance of cracking into the rotation and getting some starts, especially since she showed exciting talent on an international stage this summer. Sævik qualifies as a top prospect and only adds to the impressive collection of young talent in PSG’s ranks.
