WWE SummerSlam 2019 preview: SmackDown Women’s Championship match
A change is in the air as Ember Moon gets her first ever title shot on the main roster when she faces SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley at SummerSlam.
It’s been a long time coming but Ember Moon has finally found herself in the title picture. Come August 11, it will be the first time Moon gets an opportunity on WWE‘s main roster to not only get a shot at the SmackDown Live Women’s Championship, but to do it on a big stage like SummerSlam.
Moon is receiving her title shot simply because current SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Bayley deemed it so. Since Bayley won the title at Money in the Bank her championship reign has been strong so far. She fended off Alexa Bliss, rewriting the history books to erase their lackluster kendo stick on a pole match. Then she defeated both Bliss and Nikki Cross in a handicap match that solidified her as a fighting champion.
But Bayley isn’t the type of athlete who likes to sit back on her laurels. She’s seeking constant change and recognizes there’s a roster deep with women’s talent that deserve a chance to show their worth the same way Bayley herself has been. Apparently the powers-that-be have also decided this is the route to go and have inserted Moon into the title picture.
The two of them are some of the finest performers in the women’s division today. Both are former NXT Women’s Champions but neither have faced each other in singles competition before. The fact that both are fan favorites isn’t stopping them from getting aggressive with each other to set the tone for their SummerSlam match. First, Moon caught Bayley off guard with her Eclipse during an episode of SmackDown Live, then Bayley returned the favor the following week by catching Moon in her Bayley-to-Belly finisher.
The stakes are high in this one. Does Bayley defeat Moon to keep her title and continue her strong championship reign or does Moon upset the champ and win her first ever women’s championship on the main roster?
Find out Sunday, August 11 on WWE Network during SummerSlam.
