Dolph Ziggler and The Miz are set to go head-to-head at SummerSlam, but there could be a surprise waiting for Ziggler.

Dolph Ziggler and The Miz have battled each other for years. In the past, Miz has been the arrogant show-boat who wants everything to be about him, but he’s done a 180 over the last few months, likely due to being a father now with baby number two on the way. Ziggler, by contrast, has typically been portrayed as an under-appreciated, hard working Superstar. But this time, Ziggler is the arrogant it’s-all-about-me crybaby. Seeing these two on opposite sides of the spectrum is nothing new, but the role reversal is.

Only this might not be the match we see at all. Last week, a day after the Raw Reunion, Shawn Michaels was on Miz TV when Ziggler interrupted the show to reiterate his it-should-be-me attitude. He blatantly disrespected a few former legends. He aimed a punch at the Heartbreak Kid, who ducked and the hit landed on the Miz.

When HBK turned around to address Dolph, he didn’t get a chance to say or do anything as he immediately took a superkick to the chin. Ziggler also said some not-so-nice things about Goldberg. And while it hasn’t been announced or confirmed as of yet, it is unlikely that Goldberg will let that go without a word.

So while the fight is currently slated as the Miz and Dolph Ziggler, it’s quite likely that Goldberg will make his presence known this week and take his place at SummerSlam. Should that happen, Ziggler can fully expect to take a Jackhammer or a spear as soon as the bell rings to start the match. Ziggler is not in Goldberg’s league, even now. So while his youth and being in ring shape on a regular basis will keep him in the match for a little while, Goldberg is likely to show Ziggler that he’s still got it. And that all of the legends and Hall of Famers deserve the respect and admiration of the current performers.

Goldberg will also want to redeem himself after his failed match with the Undertaker at Super Showdown. The match was supposed to be an epic battle between two old school wrestlers, but ended in a rather anti-climactic fashion and much earlier than it was supposed to end. The heat likely played a factor, among other things, but the WWE, Undertaker and Goldberg all took flack for the way that match turned out. The Undertaker didn’t take quite as much, and he’s made appearances since then to save face. Now it’s Goldberg’s turn to save face, and in the process educate an arrogant Ziggler on how things really are.

Should Goldberg not replace Miz, the result will still be the same. The Miz has really upped his in-ring game since parting ways with Shane McMahon, and while it will be a battle to the end, Miz is likely to come away with the win.
