Liverpool vs. Tottenham

A rematch of last season’s Champions League final takes place on October 27 at Liverpool’s famed Anfield. The game, taking place early on in the 2019-20 campaign, is expected to be better than the drab contest in Madrid this past June.

The Mersyside club, last year’s Premier League runners up, got the best of Spurs in both Premier League contest. Both games ended 2-1.

In a recent interview, Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk said of the Champions League final: “We were dropping back, we were defending like mad. At one point, we were just hoofing the ball forward, but it was the mental aspect. Usually we would build from the back, play our own football, but going 1-0 up after two minutes [through Mo Salah’s penalty] is just a crazy situation in such a big game.”

This season, the return game in London will be played on January 11, just weeks after the busy Christmas period. For Tottenham, this could be the season where they finally win the Premier League. It will take an injury-free Harry Kane and Dele Alli being a consistent scorer to make this happen.

Liverpool, meanwhile, will need to get past its Euro hangover. As usual, Salah, who is coming off a strong Africa Cup of Nations, will need to have another strong season. Liverpool could win the Premier League (they are among the favorites), but will need to stay sharp and sweep aside teams like Spurs along the way for this to happen.
