3. Chicago White Sox

It may not look it as they move toward 90 losses with a 10-21 record since July 3, but the future looks bright for the White Sox. Lucas Giolito appears to be a legit top half of the rotation arm, and Eloy Jimenez, Yoan Moncada and Dylan Cease appear to be future building blocks.

The Pale Hose entered the season with MLB Pipeline’s fourth-best minor league system, and this week’s midseason re-ranking put them at No. 9. Of the top-43 overall prospects in baseball, they have five of them (counting Cease). That’s quite top-heavy, but parting with a couple of them and maybe one other top-30 prospect might be enough to get deal done for Betts.

Via Spotrac, the White Sox coming in with the lowest payroll obligation in baseball for 2020 and they’re only a little higher for 2021. So they seem headed for a couple of active offseasons, and trading for Betts would fit that template perfectly.

Here’s a possible deal to bring Betts to the South Side.
