6. Indiana vs. Purdue – Old Oaken Bucket

Another rivalry that pre-dates the 20th century, the winner of Indiana and Purdue takes home the Old Oaken Bucket. It was first awarded to Purdue in 1925, and the Boilermakers own the all-time series, 74-41-6.

Purdue’s on a two-game win streak, in addition to owning the largest victory (68-0) and the longest winning (10 games) and unbeaten (14 games) streak. Neither program has done much in college football on the national stage, though, combining for zero national championships and zero Heisman Trophy winners.

The name of the trophy is derived from a poem written by Samuel Woodworth in 1817. You can read it in its entirety here.

"“How dear to this heart are the scenes of my childhood, When fond recollection presents them to view! The orchard, the meadow, the deep-tangled wild-wood, And every loved spot which my infancy knew! And e’en the rude bucket that hung in the well— The old oaken bucket, the iron-bound bucket, The moss-covered bucket which hung in the well.”"
