Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: August 9th, 2019

Tonight’s Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks slate features 14 games, with plenty of areas to exploit. With a handful of high-priced pitchers available, finding value will be imperative for success.
We’ll be aiming to highlight MLB DFS picks from the perspective of batted ball data, batter splits, stolen base upside, and pricing discrepancies.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Standout Batted Ball Stats

Brett Gardner – DK $4200, FD $3200

New York will stay up north to take on the Blue Jays, and Brett Gardner should be considered on both sites tonight. Gardner has been racking up the fantasy points, however his price wouldn’t indicate how successful he’s been. With the recent success, his price has actually dropped to $4200. In the last 15 days, his batted ball distance is up 29 feet, his hard hit percentage is up 7%, and his exit velocity is up 1 MPH, over his yearly averages.

Tony Kemp – DK $3300, FD $2000

If you really need to dig deep into the bargain bin, give some thought to the bottom of the Cubs lineup, and Tony Kemp. You’ll need to monitor the lineups as they’re released, but he may crack the lineup, as they’ll be facing a righty. His recent stats are not convincing in the least, however, his batted ball stats would indicate that positive regression is on the way. In the last 15 days, his batted ball distance is up 8 feet, his hard hit percentage is up 17%, and his exit velocity is up 2 MPH. He’s virtually unplayable in DraftKings at that price, but is worth considering on FanDuel, at the minimum price.

Batter Splits

Lourdes Gurriel – DK $4600, FD $3100

If you’re a fan of targeting batters in advantageous split matchups, look to Lourdes Gurriel tonight. Gurriel will draw a juicy matchup against the lefty, J.A. Happ. Gurriel is significantly more effective against left handed pitching, with a .429 wOBA split (.128 better than when facing a righty) and a .356 ISO split (.176 better than when facing a righty).

Stolen Base Upside

Cincinnati Runners

If the Reds can get on base, they’ll have tremendous stolen base upside, as they’ll face the righty, Yu Darvish. Darvish has allowed 20 stolen bases (second most in the majors), over the course of 126 innings pitched. Darvish has been fantastic since the All-Star Break, but this should benefit players like Nick Senzel, Josh VanMeter, and others.

Pricing Discrepancies

Aaron JudgeDK $4200, FD $4300

D.J. Lemahieu – DK $4700, FD $4300

Kyle Schwarber – DK $4800, FD $3000

Hunter Renfroe – DK $4500, FD $3000
