FanSided had the opportunity to sit down with Villain Enterprises member Flip Gordon to talk about the current state of Ring of Honor and his aspirations for the rest of 2019.

A former military member and a New England wrestling scene regular, Flip Gordon gained a spotlight with his high-flying style and no-fear attitude towards competition.

Gordon first gained notoriety in Ring of Honor as a recurring cast member of former ROH stable The Elite’s YouTube show, Being the Elite. Gordon went on to team with The Young Bucks several times, win the Sea of Honor tournament, compete for the Ring of Honor Championship at All In and participate in NJPW’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament.

Now with a bigger spotlight on him in 2019, Gordon is geared towards elevating his skills in the ring and his personal brand as he teams with his new stable, Villain Enterprises.

FanSided: Can you talk about teaming up with Marty Scurll and Villain Enterprises and how you are feeling being part of that group now?

Flip Gordon: I’m really excited because for the first time ever I am a part of a group. I no longer have to fend for myself. I now have people watching my back. I think we mesh really well and I’m under the umbrella, the learning umbrella, of Marty Scurll, and he’s got a lot to teach me and I have a lot to learn.

FanSided: How does it feel to be working with Marty Scurll again after not working together for a while?

Gordon: One of the best times of my career was last year’s [NJPW] Best of the Super Juniors but we kinda drifted after that so it’s going to be really exciting to be with him again because I think we work really well together. Our characters feed off of each other very well.

FanSided: What can the ROH fans expect from Flip Gordon moving forward now that you have joined a group like Villain Enterprises?

Gordon: Well you see that’s the best part, because you don’t know what to expect. I’m a mercenary now and I go where the money goes. I’m going to the highest bidder and right now that’s Marty. It’s a lot of money not including the merch sales which are going to be fantastic. There’s no rules, and like I said i’m learning from Marty who is one of the greatest villains in pro wrestling.

I’m a mercenary now and I go where the money goes. I’m going to the highest bidder and right now that’s Marty.

FanSided: What was the moment like in the ring when the fans realized you had joined Villain Enterprises instead of Lifeblood at Best in the World?

Gordon: It was a great moment and not even Lifeblood expected it, but they didn’t have the right offer for me. Marty had the better offer.

FanSided: So correct me if I am wrong but you are viewing this as a business decision and not a personal one?

Gordon: A business decision yes. This is business. There are no friends in business.

FanSided: What has been your favorite moment you’ve had in Ring of Honor this year?

Gordon: [For] 2019, [it] would have to be returning at Madison Square Garden to a sold out crowd. It was just an amazing feeling. I got goosebumps. And I wrestled a Hall of Famer in Madison Square Garden and I pinned him right in the middle of the ring.

FanSided: Who is your dream opponent on the roster currently?

Gordon: There’s a guy that started coming up the same time I did. He’s with Ring of Honor and he’s held the TV Championship. We’ve never ever ever locked up and that’s Jeff Cobb. He’s an amazing athlete, he’s one of the fastest rising stars in professional wrestling and that is somebody I need to get in the ring with.

If there is a a future “next guy” then I want to be that “next guy” because I won’t settle for anything less.

FanSided: What’s your mission statement for this rest of this year?

Gordon: I’m coming back with a vengeance. I’ve missed a lot of time due to injuries and I’m not going to miss any more. There’s a lot of people saying that Ring of Honor is in a rebuild so if there is a a future “next guy” then I want to be that “next guy” because I won’t settle for anything less.
