Here’s a look at 15 of the best undercard matches in the history of WWE SummerSlam.

Growing up, we had four WWE (then-WWF) pay-per-view events per year. We didn’t get slammed with a new three-hour event every three or four weeks. We had to often wait three to four months for the next event. There was WrestleMania, the Royal Rumble, Survivor Series, and the event we’re about to dive into — SummerSlam.

While everybody obviously looks forward to the big main events of every card, a lot of under-appreciated matches happen throughout the night. We’re going to take a look at 15 of the best of the “undercard” or non-main event encounters.

Most of the matches you’ll see listed here are from the 1990s. There are a few good ones to mention from 2000 and on, but there were some important and exciting matches that a lot of us grew up with. From the SummerSlam 1995 ladder match between Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon, to the Bret Hart and Mr. Perfect classic in 1991, you could just pick and choose several of those undercard matches to select.

A lot of them were more than just a match on the card though. Back in the younger days of SummerSlam, there was a serious build to a match due to not having a pay-per-view every couple of weeks. As mentioned above, you often had week to build a captivating match and draw fans into your story. Sadly, the business moves so fast in this day and age, you don’t get that opportunity a lot of the time. But that being said, here are some of the best undercards in the SummerSlam history books.
