1995: Ladder Match — Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon

At WrestleMania X in 1994, Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon tore down Madison Square Garden in a ladder match. The two had been feuding over the Intercontinental Championship and who was the rightful owner of the title. Ramon would emerge victorious, in a match that is still highly regarded and talked about today.

A year and half later, the rematch we didn’t think would happen took place at SummerSlam 1995. The two put on a performance that nearly rivaled that of their first encounter. The difference with this match was Michaels would retain the title. A grueling ladder match was still toned down a bit from their previous meeting. They didn’t use the ladders as aggressively as they had before. But it didn’t stop them from still having an incredible match.

Michaels would backdrop Ramon out of the ring, and climb the ladder to retrieve his title. And it closed the door on a lengthy rivalry over the Intercontinental Championship. While the victory was long-overdue for the champion, the celebration would be relatively short-lived. Michaels was attacked a month later in Syracuse, and would be forced to vacate the title. He took some time off to heal, and then surprised the world by returning at the 1996 Royal Rumble and winning for the second year in a row. And as we all know, it catapulted him to the WWF Championship at WrestleMania XII.

Ramon was in and out of the Intercontinental Championship picture for the remainder of the year. But shortly after WrestleMania, he would take off for WCW and the bright lights of the New World Order.
