1990: Randy Savage vs. Dusty Rhodes

Two of the biggest legends of pro wrestling would collide in 1990, as the “Macho King”  Randy Savage would step into the ring against “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes.

But while Savage was accompanied by Sensational Queen Sherri, Dusty was usually seen with Sapphire. However on this night, Sapphire was nowhere to be seen. At least, until the “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase made a surprise appearance and brought her out. DiBiase had paid for her services, to the shock of everyone.

It distracted The Dream, who watched as DiBiase admitted to giving her a bag full of money and buying her various luxurious items. Rhodes left the ring to go after DiBiase, but Savage chased after him and brought him back to the ring. Savage dominated the majority of the match, and got some assistance from Sherri. When Rhodes had knocked Savage to the outside, Savage used Sherri as a shield. She would then hand Savage her purse, and then distracted the ref.

It gave Savage the opening he needed to hit Rhodes with the loaded purse, and make the cover for the win. Afterwards, Savage and Sherri bolted from the ringside area and backstage interviewer Sean Mooney tried to get a word with DiBiase as he was quickly leaving the arena, but all DiBiase would say was there was nothing his money couldn’t buy. And he would continue to prove that throughout the years.

It was one of the final matches for Rhodes, as he left for WCW in 1991. Savage would stay until his departure in 1994. He served mainly as a commentator over his last year, before getting back in the ring in WCW.
