ST. PETERSBURG, FL – AUG 05: Charlie Morton (50) of the Rays delivers a pitch to the plate during the MLB regular season game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Rays on August 05, 2019, at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL. (Photo by Cliff Welch/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) /

DraftKings MLB Pitcher Plays:

Top Tier:

Charlie Morton ($11,900): Wow, that’s a lot for Morton, but I’m not doing my job if I don’t at least mention him. Morton has been less sharp since the break, but he has faced Boston twice, the Yankees twice, and the Baby Jays. That’ll hurt your ERA in a hurry. Morton gets a big reprieve with an ice cold Seattle team tonight. I don’t like the price, but Morton should be the highest scoring pitcher by several points tonight.

Chris Paddack ($9,600): Paddack has dominated at home with a 2.28 ERA and 0.74 WHIP in eight starts. Paddack hasn’t thrown 100 pitches yet this year, so the Padres are limiting him, but this kind of dominance will still make him worth the price. Especially when you consider his opponent is a below average road team that strikes out a lot.

Middle Tier:

Sonny Gray ($8,600): Earlier this year Gray was dazzling at home, but he has come back to earth with the heat of the summer. Still, Gray’s overall numbers are very good. This is his fourth start against the Cubs this year. Gray has averaged 21.3 DraftKings ponts per game in the other three. If he gets that again, Gray is a huge bargain. His ability to keep the ball on the ground really helps in this park.

Tanner Roark ($8,200): Roark is certainly getting it easy in Oakland. His debut was against the Cardinals. Now he gets the White Sox. This cakewalk wont last forever, but we may as well take advantage of it while it’s here. Roark only walked two (that’s really good for him) over five innings in his Oakland debut and induced ten ground ball outs. If he can keep the ball on the ground again and strike out another half dozen, I think we’ll be happy with his point total.

Adam Wainwright ($7,800): I love it when Wainwright alternates home and road starts because he pitches so poorly on the road that his price is discounted for the home game, where he has a 2.26 ERA in ten starts. Waino’s only start against the Pirates in St Louis was a 26.75 DraftKings point gem. Say hello to value!

Bargain Pitchers:

Alex Young ($7,400): The Dodgers are quietly struggling with lefties lately. A lot of that has to do with lefty killer Kike Hernandez on the shelf. Chris Taylor joined him too. That leaves a lot of lefties to tangle with the lefty. Young threw 2.1 scoreless innings against the Dodgers earlier this year. If he can turn that into five of six scoreless, he is a huge bargain here.

Reynaldo Lopez ($7,200): The A’s are only hitting .149 in 47 at bats against Lopez with a homer, two runs, and a nice 15 strikeouts. Keep in mind that most of these stats are from before Lopez actually learned how to pitch. Lopez hasn’t allowed more than three runs in a start since July 4th. He’s got a good thing going here, and it should continue against an A’s team that he dominated once in that stretch.

Aaron Sanchez ($6,900): The Orioles’ career numbers against Sanchez look very good, but they are not what they seem. Almost all of the damage is done by someone that can’t hit anymore. Sanchez picked up 13.1 DraftKings points against Baltimore earlier this year in only five innings. The Astros are fixers. If they fixed Sanchez like they did Miley, Sanchez could be in for a big game tonight.

My picks: Paddack, Waino; Waino, Lopez; Gray, Lopez
