Aston Villa make their return to the Premier League after three seasons in the Championship. Villa finished fifth in the Championship last season winning the playoff to earn promotion into the Premier League.
After not buying anyone last summer, Mauricio Pochettino was finally allowed to buy a player. Tottenham made French midfielder Tanguy Ndombele their most expensive signing in club history as they look to improve on their results last season. Spurs return this season with stability at the back with Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez. Upfront, Harry Kane is among the best strikers in the world. Kane scored 17 goals last season despite missing 10 games due to injury.
Aston Villa were a staple of the Premier League until they were relegated in 2016. In their final Premier League season, Villa finished last with only 17 points. The Villans spent the summer upgrading their squad, as they attempt to make their stay in the Premier League last more than one season. Villa spent over €148 million and brought in 12 players. Dean Smith added Brazilian striker Wesley and made Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings loan permanent. Wesley and Mings should both be in Smith’s starting XI when Villa kick off their season on Saturday.
