Vergil Ortiz Jr. is one of the brightest young prospects in boxing. He continues his climb up the ranks against Antonio Orozco on Saturday, Aug. 10.

Golden Boy Promotions young prospect Vergil Ortiz Jr. (13-0, 13 KOs) might be the most promising up-and-comer in all of boxing. He fights in front of his hometown of Grand Prairie, TX on Saturday, Aug. 10 on DAZN against veteran Antonio Orozco (28-1, 17 KOs). Ortiz is still establishing his name, but he’s a fighter worth watching.

Ortiz vs. Orozco was announced one month ago, and Ortiz is the biggest name leading the fight card. He’s only 21 years old, but his prestigious amateur background and flashy 100 percent KO rating make him a super lightweight to be feared.

Ortiz is currently ranked as the 51st best super lightweight in the world by Boxrec.com, but his ranking will dramatically improve if he handles Orozco in the same manner as his previous 13 opponents.

Orozco is rated as the 19th best super lightweight by Boxrec.com. He lost one time in 2018 to Juan Carlos Ramirez in his lone title shot. He has a 59 percent KO rating and needs to rely on his edge in professional experience against Ortiz. Orozco is 31 years old and has 29 professional bouts under his belt.

During the final press conference, Ortiz was complimentary of Orozco.

“Orozco is a very tough opponent, I’m not taking him lightly at all. He deserves all the respect in the world, especially on that ring,” said Ortiz. “It’s sink or swim…good thing I’m a good swimmer. I’m just looking forward to seeing those familiar faces in the audience. Best of luck to Orozco. This isn’t personal, we are here to support our families.”

The main undercard bout features bantamweights Joshua Franco (15-1-1, 7 KOs) vs. Oscar Negrete (18-2-1, 7 KOs). This is the third meeting between Franco and Negrete.

In their first fight, Franco and Negrete fought to a draw in 2018. During the rematch in April, Franco won by split-decision. It will be interesting to see who’s victorious in the rubber match.

Ortiz vs. Orozco will be streamed live on DAZN starting at 9 p.m. ET. You can also view the undercards on DAZN beginning at 7 p.m. ET.

If Ortiz continues his KO streak against Orozco, then his name will vault into the top-20 super lightweight rankings. Orozco has never been knocked out, but Ortiz is sure to put his chin to the test on Aug. 10.
