Newcastle face Arsenal at St. James’ Park on Sunday, August 11. Here’s all the info you need to watch.

Arsenal head into their first Premier League game of the 2019-2020 season with plenty of optimism after completing the strongest possible transfer window imaginable despite their budgetary concerns. They added two starting-caliber defenders in Kieran Tierney and David Luiz, and they even added another elite attacker in Lille winger Nicolas Pepe.

Meanwhile, Mike Ashley has Newcastle in even more disarray after pushing out Rafael Benitez. Though Newcastle added a legitimate difference-maker in attack in Joelinton, they also overpaid for him and let goal-scoring hero Ayoze Perez leave to greener pastures in Leicester City.

Between the two teams, Newcastle actually have more to prove on Matchday 1 in front of their increasingly frustrated supporters at the vaunted St. James’ Park. Few even expect them to secure a point against Arsenal, but the Gunners can’t afford to let their guard down.

Arsenal fans will watch how Pepe is included into the side, and there will also be intrigue around veteran midfielders Henrik Mkhitaryan and Mesut Ozil, who will both remain with the Gunners after being mentioned in rumors over the summer. At their best, they are world class, but it’s unclear if Unai Emery is a manager interested in pushing them to their potential.

While Arsenal should win this game handily, hopefully Newcastle can do enough to make this a contest. The all-around ability of Joelinton will at least make Newcastle fun to watch in attack, especially if he ends up being as good as the price tag indicates.
