Highlights, takeaways and what’s next for the Superstars of WWE following Sunday night’s SummerSlam pay-per-view event.

It’s known as the “Biggest Party of the Summer” and the 2019 edition of WWE SummerSlam tried hard to live up to that. Unfortunately, things just never reached that next level. SummerSlam certainly wasn’t a bad show by any stretch of the imagination but it certainly could have been better. There were a few matches that fell short of what they could have been but there were also plenty of fun moments and great spots. So let’s go ahead and get into all of the events that transpired on Sunday night at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

As per usual, I’m not going to get into too much from what happened on the Kickoff Show but I’ll at least give you a few notes. Again, as per usual, the WWE Cruiserweight Championship match was kicked to the pre-show and Drew Gulak retained his title against Oney Lorcan in a decent match to start the night.

That was followed by Buddy Murphy and Apollo Crews in what was simply a way to get to the Rowan and Daniel Bryan saga involving Roman Reigns. More on that later. The third match of the SummerSlam Kickoff Show saw Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross successfully defend their newly-won WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship against The IIconics in an average match. But Alexa was dressed up like Buzz Lightyear, which made the commentary entertaining. And Edge made a fun appearance to spear Elias, which was the highlight of those first couple hours. But we’ve got so much more to get to so let’s jump into the main card.
