NBA Schedule 2019-20: When does Chris Paul play the Rockets?
The 2019-20 NBA schedule is out, so when does Chris Paul play against the Houston Rockets?
In the last big move of a notably active NBA offseason, the Houston Rockets sent Chris Paul and draft picks to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Russell Westbrook. Rumors of conflict between Paul and James Harden seemed real despite attempts to squash them, and a declaration from Rockets general manager Daryl Morey that Paul would not be traded proved to be short-sighted if nothing else.
After easy initial indications the now rebuilding Thunder would send Paul and his bloated contract elsewhere immediately, it’s now a virtual certainty he will start the season with the team. A naturally limited set of suitors is partially to blame, and in particular, the Miami Heat reportedly wanted Paul to waive his $44.2 million option for 2021-22 to facilitate a trade.
There’s a chance Paul spends the entire season in Oklahoma City, and a trade is seriously revisited next offseason when the financial obligation for an acquiring team is less.
So when will Paul play the Rockets during the 2019-20 season?
Monday, Oct. 28, 2019-Thunder at Rockets
Before Halloween, in Oklahoma City’s fourth game of the season, Paul will make his return to Houston.
Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020-Rockets at Thunder
To the surprise of no one, this game will be the second of TNT’s typical Thursday night doubleheader on Jan. 9. Beyond Paul playing his former team a second time, assuming he’s healthy, it will also be Westbrook’s much-anticipated return to Oklahoma City.
Monday, Jan. 20, 2020-Thunder at Rockets
The NBA’s Martin Luther King Day schedule brings the third and final Thunder-Rockets game of the season.
Beyond the three regular-season games between the Thunder and the Rockets, a playoff series can’t be ruled out even as Oklahoma City enters a rebuilding phase. If Paul is still on the team, things would really get interesting then.
