Athletic Bilbao face Barcelona at the San Mames on Friday, August 16. Here’s all the info you need to watch.

Athletic Bilbao went into last season with high hopes, but things didn’t work out under Eduardo Berizzo, who was sacked before Christmas. Berizzo’s replacement, Gaizka Garitano, then took the club from 18th at the time of his appointment to finish in a respectable eighth.

Bilbao’s transfer activity is always constrained by the club’s policy of only signing Basque players, and the few new additions to the squad have all come from Bilbao’s youth ranks, although they did at least manage to stave off interest in forward Inaki Williams from Manchester United.

Barcelona seem to have had a good transfer window as things stand. They’ve strengthened in attack, midfield and defense with the arrivals of Antoine Griezmann, Frenkie de Jong and Junior Firpo, respectively. At the same time, deadwood in the shape of Andre Gomes, Paco Alcacer and Denis Suarez have been sold for in excess of £50 million.

Uncertainty remains, however, over whether Arturo Vidal, Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Rakitic will stay at the Camp Nou and, of course, if Neymar will return.
