The Heisman Trophy odds have been out for months. With college football just around the corner, this is the time to make your bets.

As with everything that has to do with betting and college football this season, Alabama and Clemson dominate everything. That’s no different for the Heisman Trophy odds. Right now, Tua Tagovailoa and Trevor Lawrence are both 11/4, leading the pack significantly. The next best is three different QBs at 10/1.

We aren’t here to talk about the favorites, we’re here to talk about where you can make some real money. Last season, the favorite was a running back, as Bryce Love topped the list at 5/1. He was not very good, and his season ended with a torn ACL.

Who did win the Heisman Trophy was Kyler Murray. The Oklahoma quarterback started the season with 20/1 odds and ended the season on the big stage. The Heisman Trophy is not the National Championship. There is a real chance for a long shot to win the big trophy.

So, who are some of the long shots we should pay attention to this season? These are the five players you should put your money on right now.

5. Shea Patterson, Michigan, QB – 20/1

The Michigan Wolverines came so close last season, but fell apart when it really mattered. It was the defense that really disappointed against Ohio State and in their bowl game. Over the first ten games of the season, Patterson threw for 17 touchdowns and three interceptions. Honestly, Jim Harbaugh didn’t ask a lot from him. However, when he did rely on him, Patterson didn’t step up. However, he’s been increasingly impressive in camp, and Michigan seems to think they have a gem on their hands. Michigan will be playing a more spread-based offense this season, and Patterson’s number will be much better for it.

4. Kellen Mond, Texas A&M, QB – 60/1

Texas A&M is just an extremely interesting team this season. It’s the second year of the Jimbo Fisher era, and last year went pretty well. For a coach to come into a system and win nine games immediately is impressive. The Aggies are getting some hype, and they’re expected to finish third in the SEC West this season. A lot of that has to do with the man under center. He plays his best when it counts, throwing for 12 touchdowns against just three interceptions against teams in the Top 25. If he can improve on that, he will make it happen when it counts, and that goes a long way with the Heisman voters.

3. Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin, RB – 18/1

This will be the lowest odds you see on this list. However, we cannot ignore Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor. He’s been rocketing up betting boards, jumping from 30/1 to 18/1, and we expect things to get even lower in no time. Taylor came into last season as the second favorite in all of college football, and he didn’t disappoint. He had 2,194 yards and 16 touchdowns last season. He ended up ninth in Heisman voting, but this season he could make some real noise if Wisconsin isn’t a colossal disappointment. If Wisconsin gets back in the title picture, which we expect them to do, then we should see Taylor getting back into the Heisman picture.

2. Justin Herbert, Oregon, QB – 20/1

Oregon is an interesting team to watch this season, and that’s strictly because of quarterback Justin Herbert. Herbert is naturally gifted at the quarterback position. We expected him to become a Heisman Trophy candidate last season. It didn’t happen. In fact, he didn’t even make honorable mention All Pac 12. Herbert has everything to gain this season, as he could still become the number-one overall pick in the NFL Draft. If he puts together a top-pick worthy season, that could turn into a Heisman Trophy candidate.

1. Feleipe Franks 100/1

These are some of the best odds in all of college football. 100/1 for a great quarterback who could surprise everyone and bring the Florida Gators to prominence? You have to take into account they do have to face Georgia and LSU, but if Feleipe Franks can win those games he will skyrocket up the odds. All of the Gators hopes and dreams lie on Franks shoulders. If he can hold this team up and get them in the SEC Championship Game, then Franks will find himself waiting to hear his name to win the greatest trophy in college football.
