NFL DFS preseason Week 2 Friday lineup advice
By Ben McDaniel
For each slate of NFL DFS preseason games, I will be combining information from various scouting reports and beat writers to compile a list of players who are the best bets to deliver the goods.
The preseason is notoriously fluid, and a lot can change before kickoff! Be sure to follow me on Twitter @BMcD_Sports as I’ll be updating my top plays throughout the day based on new information that comes out. Thanks for reading, NFL DFS preseason Week 2 Friday lineup advice!
NFL DFS – Quarterbacks
Chase Daniel/Tyler Bray CHI QB
Earlier this week, the Bears elected to stage a game-like atmosphere during one of their practices where they brought in crowd noise, lights, and other miscellaneous effects to make it feel like a Sunday in October.
By all indications, Nagy went to all that trouble so that he could keep from having to give his first unit any actual playing time on Friday night. That would be consistent with last season when Chicago chose to keep their starting unit on the sideline for the majority of the preseason.
Chase Daniel and Tyler Bray aren’t the sexiest names available, but it’s hard not to love both quarterbacks if we’re right to assume they’ll each see an entire half of football. A matchup against the leaky Giants defense is just icing on the cake.
Consider that last week, this Giants defense gave up passing touchdowns to Sam Darnold, Trevor Siemian, and Luke Falk. A pretty good rule of thumb in DFS is that if Luke Falk can do it, anyone can!
Ryan Griffin/Blaine Gabbert TB QB
Ryan Griffin is coming off of a game where he looked like Peyton Manning with a slightly smaller forehead, and while you definitely can’t count on him attempting 43 passes again, he has at least shown what his ceiling could be.
Greg Auman, who covers the Bucs for The Athletic, reported yesterday that similar to last week, Tampa’s game plan will be to only give the starters a series or two. If we’re right to assume Gabbert finishes out the half, that would put Griffin in the same situation he was in last week.
I will add, Gabbert is one of the more interesting pivots, as he’ll come in with essentially zero ownership and will give you direct leverage against the multitude of people who will be deploying Griffin in their lineups. Check out Gabbert’s solid performances from last preseason.
- Week 1 – 9/15, 76 yards
- Week 2 – 10/16, 116 yards, 1 touchdown
- Week 3 – 16/24, 158 yards, 1 touchdown
Starting Gabbert would take guts, but it would definitely give you an opportunity to differentiate your lineup if you’re planning to roll with some of the more chalkier plays. (More on that in a moment.)
