DraftKings MLB Early plays:

The early slate leaves a lot to be desired as far as pitching goes. The highest priced one is Chris Bassitt. Okay, fair enough. However, he’s playing Houston. No thanks! Rogelio Armenteros is getting the call for Houston. He has pitched well when asked for Houston this year, including winning his only start against Texas on July 21.

Armenteros has shown good command and ample strikeout ability. I have no issue paying $9,200 for him against Oakland, especially since he has been used as a starter in the minors. Houston should let him go as long as he remains effective.

Ryan Yarbrough is a strong option as well, but Detroit has hit lefties well lately. I’m not sure that matters. Did you see Yarbrough’s gem in Seattle last week? It is worth noting that Yarbrough has a 5.36 ERA at home, but I love the strikeout potential against the Tigers.

More from DraftKings

DeSclafani has been good at home and even better against the Cardinals. He has started four times against St. Louis already this year and is averaging 19.3 DraftKings points per game against them. At $7,700, DeSclafani is a nice bargain.

Miles Mikolas has been bad on the road (2-7, 6.34 ERA) and not much better against Cincinnati (0-2, 5.63 ERA in three starts). This is an avoid spot for me. So is long reliever Erik Swanson and his 7.34 ERA against the Baby Jays.

Trent Thornton is a very interesting value play today. Thornton has struggled at home, but he did hold the Yankees to just one run on three hits in six innings in Toronto last week. He still lost. Loss notwithstanding, it is an encouraging sign. So is Seattle visiting. The Mariners are better against righties, but still about as inconsistent as they come. There is solid upside with Thornton today.

Jordan Zimmerman is stack bait. Quite simply, I wouldn’t even use him against a AAA team right now. The Rays are far from that.

I am building a couple of lineups. In one, I’m rolling with Yabrough and DeSclafani, leaving $4,187 per hitter slot. With the other I’m going with DeSclafani and Thornton, leaving $4,487 per slot.

One lineup will definitely have a Rays stack. In fact, you can build a nice Rays/Jays hybrid stack easily with DeSclafani and Yarbrough. I was able to get all of the big pieces in that one.

The other lineup I was able to go with a Houston/Jays stack and fit all of the major components in there, even with Altuve over Biggio.
