Despite being four goals down by half-time against Liverpool on Friday, Norwich nonetheless provided plenty of indications of why they were the top scorers in the Championship last term. If Daniel Farke’s side can create that many openings against what was the best defense in the league last year, then there’s a good chance they’ll win plenty of games and admirers over the coming months.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have already been relegated twice since Mike Ashley bought the club in 2007 – although they’ve immediately bounced back up on both occasions – and plenty of people expect them to meet the same fate again this season.
Indeed, the last time new head coach Steve Bruce managed in the Premier League was in 2014–15, when he led Hull to the drop. His record certainly pales next to that of his predecessor, Champions League and La Liga winner Rafa Benitez
Bruce has supported the club since he was a child, of course, having been born and raised in nearby Corbridge, but such sentimental attachments count for little in today’s EPL.
