One of the most talented and athletic women’s wrestlers in the WWE is being devalued. Naomi needs a change in order to revive her career.

It’s sad but true that a lot of the most talented wrestlers often wind up getting pushed to the back of the line. What’s equally true is that they don’t have to stay there. Becky Lynch is a prime example of a talent being overlooked and underutilized who bounced back to become one of the biggest stars in WWE history.

For all her talent, athleticism, and charisma, Naomi is the one being overlooked and underbooked right now. True, she’s a former WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion but when was the last time she got a title shot? It was at the end of December 2018 when she faced Asuka, who was SmackDown Women’s Champion at the time.

It was a fine match as Naomi’s matches usually are (Asuka’s too for that matter), but since then Naomi hasn’t really been wrestling. It seems she’s been relegated to the dreaded purgatory that is WWE catering on Monday and Tuesday nights. This is where talent sits in limbo and waits to be used for a match or a storyline. That’s no place for a former champion to wither away.

So how does Naomi bounce back the way Lynch did? Whiles it’s hard to see anyone obtaining the same momentum as Lynch but that doesn’t mean Naomi can’t put herself back in the fight.

Often, when a singles competitor begins to get a bit stale the bookers have been known to put them into a tag-team. Sometimes it works as is the case of the Hollywood Blondes (Steve Austin and Brian Pillman) and sometimes it doesn’t (think William Regal and Tajiri). Since the WWE seems to finally be putting some attention back on their fledgling women’s tag team division, now would be a good time to fill up that roster.

Currently they are lacking in babyface tag teams. This is where Naomi can shine, given the right partner, and a few different names could fill that role. Ember Moon had an impressive showing at her first title opportunity during SummerSlam. And although she’s said on an episode of WWE Table for 3 that she didn’t want to tag up just yet, it could be the best thing for her right now considering the landscape of the singles division is being dominated by the 4 Horsewomen. Moon and Naomi have similar aerial styles and could come up with some impressive tandem offense.

Another name to consider would have to be Carmella. When she and Naomi tagged up as Fabulous Glow during Elimination Chamber it seemed a natural fit. Both former dancers, the neon, the name all of it gelled together seamlessly. This would be an opportunity for Carmella to get her in-ring career back on track as well and it would give the women’s tag team division more substance.

The bottom line is Naomi is too good to be wasted and a heel turn at this time could risk falling flat. Another option would be to change up her current gimmick. We saw it with Lynch as mentioned, Bayley has recently dropped her “Hugger” status for a more aggressive approach and Sasha Banks made her big return to WWE by laying waste to everyone in her path with a steel chair.

Sure, Naomi could easily up the aggression but her neon colors lit up under the blacklight as she enters have become a staple unique to only her and that needs to stay. So don’t ditch the glow — accentuate it with a tag partner that complements her style and give the women’s tag team division an opportunity to grow. Win-win.
