Who are the Best Friends: An All Elite Wrestling primer
Best Friends are a veteran tag team comprised of Chuckie T and Trent Beretta. They are part of All Elite Wrestling’s tag team division and are looking to be in the title picture.
Best Friends are a popular tag team from the indie scene. They also wrestled together in NJPW, though Trent Beretta wrestled as a singles competitor there for four years. The tandem started teaming together in PWG in 2013. In 2017, they joined ROH where they wrestled for two years.
WWE fans may remember Beretta from his long tenure there. Chuckie T wrestled extensively for EVOLVE for several years. Both have been heavily involved in the indie wrestling scene for a number of years.
Known for their comedics in and outside of the ring, Best Friends are beloved by many indie fans (and hated by Jim Cornette). The duo is also known for hugging in the ring which pulls into a wide shot a la Kazuchika Okada’s Rainmaker pose. They officially joined All Elite Wrestling on February 7 at the AEW rally in Las Vegas. Although they rely on humor, both are good, solid wrestlers. They take their jobs seriously and want to be the company’s first tag team champions.
Since joining AEW, they competed against Angelico and Jack Evans at Double or Nothing. They were victorious, but were attacked afterwards by The Dark Order. At Fyter Fest, the team faced SCU and Private Party where they earned another victory. Best Friends take on The Dark Order at All Out with the winner receiving a first round bye in the AEW World Tag Team Tournament.
AEW is building a strong tag team division with The Dark Order, Young Bucks, Lucha Brothers, SCU (Frankie Kazarian and Scorpio Sky), Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy, Private Party and Angelico and Jack Evans. LAX is potentially on their way in as they just finished their IMPACT run and are rumored to be Chris Jericho’s mystery partners on the AEW’s debut show on TNT.
AEW will arguably have one of the best tag team divisions in pro wrestling. Becoming the inaugural tag team champions will solidify the Best Friends’ spot in the division and make them the face of AEW’s tag team division. Fans will have no choice but to take them seriously.
