WWE SmackDown Live preview, August 20: Watch online
Here’s all the information you need for the August 20, 2019 edition of WWE SmackDown! Live.
NCAA may have the March Madness bracket, but WWE is busting out an old favorite. This week, we witness the return of the King of the Ring tournament. Sixteen men will compete, and things get started this week.
The announcement came last week, with news that the winner will be crowned next month at Clash of Champions. Tournament matches will take place each week on WWE television, and with two matches are already in the books from Monday Night Raw. Now SmackDown Live gets its turn with two more matches.
After knocking off Shane McMahon at SummerSlam, Kevin Owens will re-spark a part of that feud when he gets the Team Blue portion of the tournament started against Elias. The lyrical loudmouth will no doubt have some revenge on his mind, after the way Owens treated him during his match with McMahon. Can Owens bust Elias’ bracket hopes, or will he be an early exit?
Apollo Crews has been on the receiving end of some aggravation from Andrade over the last few months. This week, the two will meet in a first-round match of the tournament. Andrade has been incredibly impressive in recent weeks and would love to advance in the tournament, but Crews has hopes of derailing those plans.
Outside of the tournament, another issue looks to be resolved on Tuesday night. Two weeks ago, Buddy Murphy found himself face-first in the wall courtesy of Roman Reigns. The ongoing search to find who attacked the Big Dog led Murphy to challenge Reigns last week, but Murphy would be attacked by Rowan. This week, Daniel Bryan will not only face Murphy, but has also promised to reveal who attacked Reigns. Hopefully we’ll get that answer, and not left hanging like his alleged “career-altering” announcement from before SummerSlam.
