28. Rogers Centre — Toronto Blue Jays

One cool aspect about Rogers Centre is that there’s a hotel attached to it, and you can watch a Blue Jays game in the comfort of your hotel room.

Sadly, that’s the best aspect of the Rogers Centre.

Again, what saved Rogers Centre from being in the last place was that the building has history. Formerly known as SkyDome, the stadium opened in 1989 as has been the home stadium of the Blue Jays ever since. When it was opened, Rogers Centre was seen as a marvel, with the stadium corporation who built it asked to plan other stadiums in countries around the world.

Unlike the two stadiums below it, Rogers Centre is still largely functional, and when the Blue Jays are good, the atmosphere is similar to what you’ll find in St. Louis or New York. However, it seems that Rogers Centre’s time as a baseball facility is coming to an end if the end hasn’t reached it already. The playing surface is one of the worse in the Majors, and It’s considered outdated by modern MLB standards.

So the question now is when will the Blue Jays start asking for a new stadium? I think that time is approaching, even though team execs don’t want to let the cat out of the bag yet. Then again, where would a new baseball stadium go? Is there any room in Toronto proper to build a new stadium? Will they have to move to the ‘burbs? Those questions will have to be answered soon, because the time of use of Rogers Centre being a baseball stadium is fading, fast.
