Fantasy Football: 5 Bold Predictions for 2019 – Quarterback Edition
Weeks 1 and 2 of the preseason are in the books, and with Week 3 just over the horizon, we’ll soon get to see the starters on each of the league’s 32 teams in action. Thus, we’re back with some fantasy football bold predictions!
This time, we take a look at the quarterback position as the regular season inches closer. Make sure to check back in the following weeks for write-ups on the wide receiver and tight end position in the continuation of the “bold predictions” series (check out predictions for running backs here). Without further ado, let’s get right into it!
1. Carson Wentz will be a top-3 quarterback.
How this is bold:
Over the last two seasons, Wentz has missed 8 total games due to a torn ACL in 2017 and a back fracture last year. Questions surrounding his rushing upside, something that was a large part of his fantasy success from 2016-2017.
Why this will come true:
Finally, Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz appears to be fully healthy, which is a big reason he should be flying up owners’ draft boards this August. After dealing with multiple season-ending injuries over the past two seasons, Wentz has been all-systems-go in Philly’s offseason program and practiced without any restrictions whatsoever. While the team is being safe by holding him out of preseason action, Wentz will come into 2019 on what should be one of the league’s best offenses.
A now-loaded arsenal of weapons at Wentz’s disposal should pay dividends for the fourth-year signal-caller. Earlier this spring, the Eagles brought in wideouts Desean Jackson and J.J. Arcega-Whiteside via free agency and the draft along RBs Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders to solidify the run game. Add a returning Alshon Jefferey, Zach Ertz, and Dallas Goedert into the equation, and you’ve got the looks of what could be a juggernaut offense.
Now playing without the brace that hindered his mobility a season ago (34 rush attempts for just 93 yards), look for Wentz to return to the rushing presence that made him one of the best dual-threat QBs in the NFL prior to his 2017 knee injury. Remember, Wentz was fantasy’s overall QB2 in 2017 from Weeks 1-13. Look for him to return to his MVP-caliber form in 2019 as he notches a top-3 finish.
