A Look Back at Le’Veon Bell’s time in Pittsburgh

One question that many fantasy football managers have been mulling over this offseason is how good will Le’Veon Bell be in 2019? Will he be able to put up the same kind of production as he did in Pittsburgh or will he struggle on a weaker Jets offense?

The last time anyone has seen Bell play in an NFL game was on January 14, 2018, when the Steelers hosted the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Divisional round of the playoffs. Pittsburgh wound up losing that wild game 45-42, as the Jaguars went on to face the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game the following week.

While the Steelers failed to advance to the next round of the postseason that year, Bell had a fine day as he had 16 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown. Furthermore, Bell added to his stats with an additional nine catches for 88 yards and a score as well.

It was vintage Le’Veon Bell, but sadly for Steelers fans, it was going to be the final time he ever wore the black and yellow.

The 2018 offseason for the Steelers and Bell was a tumultuous one with a lot of tension and unease. Bell was seeking a new deal with the Steelers. One that would last long enough for the Steelers to enjoy the remaining prime years of Bell’s career.

Unfortunately, contract talks did not go over smoothly, and Bell was not present for Week 1 of the regular season last year. Each week passed with the same question on everyone’s minds: When is Bell going to return? After Week 10 which is the time when players must report in order to be able to play at all during the regular season, Bell was still nowhere to be seen.

From that point on, it was clearly evident that Bell was not returning to the Burgh. The days of a patient Pittsburgh run attack were over. Something so unique and special that no other defenses have ever encountered before was never to be enjoyed again by Steelers fans. Bell and the organization had filed for divorce and were moving on from their six-year marriage.
