Norwich open up Saturday as they host Chelsea whilst later on Arsenal travel to Anfield looking to maintain their unbeaten start. Sunday sees Tottenham host Newcastle and Bournemouth host the reigning champions, Manchester City. Here are five bold predictions for all the action.
5. Liverpool and Arsenal play out 3-3 draw
The biggest game of the weekend is undeniably Saturday’s match between Liverpool and Arsenal. The Gunners travel to Anfield aiming to maintain their unbeaten start to the season whilst Liverpool will hope to prolong their own 100% record.
Liverpool showed their quality on the opening day of the season as they dispatched Norwich in a 4-0 first-half demolition. They then produced a more champion-esque performance with a gritty 2-1 win away at Southampton.
Arsenal’s opening wins over Newcastle and Burnley haven’t been the easiest on the eye but they’ve managed to get maximum points – something that hasn’t been the case in the Gunners past few seasons.
Unai Emery’s side certainly have the quality to challenge a team like Liverpool but it doesn’t feel like they’re ready to go to Anfield and come away with all three points. Therefore, the Spanish manager should be happy with his side taking a point on Saturday.
In order to do this Arsenal will need to be tight at the back – something that their defense hasn’t been for quite some time now. David Luiz may have brought more leadership to the backline but he’s not the most reliable defender.
Previously Arsenal have gone to Anfield looking to try and contain Liverpool but the Reds just have too much firepower to adopt this strategy. Jurgen Klopp’s side should win this one whether it’s a tight match or full of goals. The Reds have more quality from back to front and they very rarely drop points at home.
That makes it an extremely hard one for Emery to judge. He can sit in and feel disappointed that his team didn’t give it a good go or try and give Liverpool a taste of their own medicine and risk being pulled apart like Norwich were.
The Gunners will give it a go this weekend with Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe and Dani Ceballos all finding the net for the London club. Liverpool will match Arsenal stride for stride and score a late equalizer with this one finishing 3-3.
