5 bold Premier League predictions this weekend: Liverpool and Arsenal draw
3. Norwich stun Chelsea with a 2-1 win
Norwich City impressed on their re-introduction to the Premier League despite being batted aside by Liverpool on the opening day. That seems like a contradiction but the Canaries played their soccer and were competitive for periods against the European champions. The problem in that match was their lack of a cutting edge.
Last weekend against Newcastle, Daniel Farke’s side found that cutting edge as they triumphed 3-1 over the side from the northeast. The standout player in that match was obviously Norwich’s Finnish striker, Teemu Pukki, who bagged a hat-trick to take him to the top of the Premier League scoring charts.
The Finn has been sensational for Norwich and he couldn’t have dreamt of a better start to life in the Premier League. This week, Pukki and his teammates will face a much sterner challenge as they welcome Frank Lampard’s Chelsea to Carrow Road in Saturday’s early match.
Chelsea showed promising signs against Manchester United but were ultimately beaten by the better team. It was almost a similar story last weekend as Leicester were made to rue missed chances with the Foxes only taking a point away from Stamford Bridge.
Lampard’s side were very impressive in the opening of that match and if it were not for some poor finishing the Blues could have been out of sight before Leicester had a chance to get back into the game. Brendan Rodgers’ side did get back into it and finished the match on top with James Maddison missing a fantastic chance to take all three points for the Foxes.
Lampard will know what his side are capable of but he needs to get them believing in themselves – particularly the likes of the younger players like Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and even Christian Pulisic.
If he can do this then Chelsea will become a much stronger team as the season goes on but for now, they are a little vulnerable. Norwich certainly won’t have a better chance at three points against a side of this caliber.
Pukki and Giroud in the first half with this game in a deadlock until Norwich’s Finnish striking sensation comes up with a late winner for the Canaries.
