Koln vs. Dortmund: Watch Bundesliga online

Koln face Borussia Dortmund at Rhein Energie Stadion on Friday, Aug. 23. Here’s all the info you need to watch online.

The second week of the Bundesliga season kicks off on Friday in Koln at Rhein Energie Stadion. The Billy Goats host Borussia Dortmund, looking for their first win since returning to the Bundesliga. Koln lost 2-1 to Wolfsburg last weekend, while Dortmund defeated Augsburg 5-1.

After being relegated, Koln won the Zweite Bundesliga last season. Over the past two decades, Koln have been a yo-yo club, bouncing between the Bundesliga and the Zweite Bundesliga, despite being one of the bigger clubs in Germany. The Billy Goats have not spent more than four consecutive seasons in the Bundesliga but have not been in the Zweite Bundesliga for more than two seasons consecutively.

While most clubs are forced to sell their top players when relegated, Koln did not. The Billy Goats are a large enough club to survive the financial drop. Over the summer, Koln did not add to their team but that has to do more with the surprise return of Anthony Modeste in the middle of last season.

Modeste scored 40 goals in two seasons with Koln and then the club and player both cashed in with Modeste moving to Chinese’s club Tianjin Quanjian. The move was supposed to last until 2020 but was a complete disaster with Modeste and Tianjin Quanjian suing each other. Modeste returned to Koln and scored six goals in 10 games with Koln and the French striker could again be among the top Bundesliga scorers this season.

Dortmund did what was expected last weekend, easily beating Augsburg 5-1. Marco Reus, Paco Alcacer and Jadon Sancho all scored and assisted on a goal. Alcacer scored twice against Augsburg, giving him 20 goals in his first 27 Bundesliga games. More impressively, Alcacer has averaged a goal every 64.7 minutes. The Spanish striker could have a monster season if Lucien Favre regularly plays Alcacer 90 minutes. A season ago, Alcacer only played the full 90 minutes four times during the Bundesliga season.
