Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: August 23rd, 2019

Tonight’s Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks slate features 13 games, and plenty of areas to exploit. With a handful of high-priced pitchers available, finding value will be imperative for success.
We’ll be aiming to highlight MLB DFS picks from the perspective of batted ball data, batter splits, stolen base upside, and pricing discrepancies.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Standout Batted Ball Stats

Rhys Hoskins – DK $4200, FD $3800

While Rhys Hoskins appears to be emerging from his recent slump, his price hasn’t reacted in turn. Hoskins was priced as high as $4900 earlier this month, so this is a fairly attractive discount tonight. His recent batted ball stats also point in the right direction, as his batted ball distance is up 7 feet, his hard hit percentage is down 4%, and his exit velocity is up 1 MPH, over his yearly averages. Hoskins is a much better bargain on DraftKings tonight.

Jake Cave – DK $3200, FD $2000

Jake Cave is never a highly touted player, but if you need to save a bit of salary, consider Cave tonight. He’s been ripping the cover off of the ball lately, even though he hasn’t necessarily filled the stat column. In the last 15 days, his batted ball distance is up 31 feet, his hard hit percentage is up 32%, and his exit velocity is up 7 MPH, over his yearly averages. Cave is much more appealing on FanDuel at the dead minimum, $2000.

Batter Splits

Jose Altuve – DK $5300, FD $4300

Jose Altuve is not available on the cheap, but if you’re a fan of batter splits, he’s the one to look to tonight. Altuve will face the lefty, Jose Suarez. He’s much more effective against left handed pitching, with a .494 wOBA split (.159 better than when facing a righty) and a .390 ISO split (.220 better than when facing a righty).

Stolen Base Upside

Atlanta Runners

If Atlanta batters can get on base, they’ll have some added upside against a stolen base prone, Jacob deGrom. deGrom has allowed 17 stolen bases this season, over the course of 155 innings pitched. This is the third most of any pitcher. It’s a difficult matchup at the plate, but if runners like Ronald Acuna can get on, they’ll look to steal. Acuna is third in the league in stolen bases, with 29.

Cleveland Runners

While the matchup get’s slightly weaker from a stolen base perspective, there is still added value and Cleveland batters may have an easier time getting on base. Cleveland will face the righty, Jake Junis, who as allowed 11 stolen bases this season. This should be a boost to runners like Jose Ramirez, Francisco Lindor, and Yasiel Puig.
