Who are SCU: An All Elite Wrestling primer

What would become the trios alliance known as SoCal Uncensored was set in motion in 2011 in TNA. Veteran performers Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian began teaming as part of the Ric Flair-led Fortune stable. Re-dubbed Bad Influence, Daniels and Kazarian won the TNA World Tag Team titles twice. During their reigns, Bad Influence feuded with their former stablemates James Storm, Robert Roode and A.J. Styles.

Daniels and Kazarian left TNA in 2014 and resurfaced in Ring of Honor. The duo, renamed The Addiction, was immediately thrust into the ROH tag title scene. The Addiction defeated reDRagon (Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish, currently the NXT Tag Team Champions) for the ROH tag titles in 2015. During the Addiction’s run in ROH, they had rivalries with the Briscoes, War Machine (The Viking Raiders) and the Motor City Machine Guns. The highlight of the Addiction’s run in ROH came in 2017. Kazarian pretended to join Bullet Club to help Daniels defeat Adam Cole (current NXT Champion) for the ROH World Championship.

In early 2018, journeyman high flyer Scorpio Sky joined Daniels and Kazarian and became SoCal Uncensored or SCU. Their new gimmick involved around proclaiming “this is the worst town I’ve ever been in” in every city they visit. The rebranding sparked new interest in the now Freebird-styled team. The trio won the ROH Six-Man World Tag titles, while Kazarian and Sky captured the World Tag belts. At the height of their ROH revitalization, Kazarian and Sky took on the Briscoe Brothers in the pre-show match at All In.

In January of 2019, SCU announced that they would join All Elite Wrestling, with Daniels also working as the company’s Head of Talent Relations. The combination of Kazarian and Sky are expected to be players in the up-coming AEW World Tag Team Championship tournament.

When AEW on TNT premiers on October 2, you can expect that no matter in what city they perform, it will be “the worst town ever!”
