WWE NXT: The 5 count for August 21, 2019
By Matt Black
A five-count rundown from this week’s episode of WWE NXT, keeping you up to date on the latest happenings in the black and yellow brand.
This week’s edition of NXT was action-packed from start to finish. There were a lot of matches on this show, which really hasn’t been the case lately. It makes sense to start getting more people on the show right now since the black and gold brand is just a few weeks away from a two-hour live show on the USA Network.
But before we get to September 18th, we have a few more one-hour shows left to go. So without further ado, this is the NXT 5 Count!
1. The Undisputed Era is still focused on their prophecy
The week’s episode of NXT kicked off with the Undisputed Era returning to Full Sail, prophecy unfulfilled from TakeOver: Toronto. Where some speculated the failures of Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish would cause dissension within the ranks of the Undisputed Era, it was simply not the case.
Cole talked about his performance at TakeOver and how he is now without a shadow of a doubt the greatest NXT Champion to ever live. He said if there was an NXT Mount Rushmore, he would be on it “all four times.”
Strong goes into the fact that because Pete Dunne was pinned and not him, that he deserved a one-on-one title match against the Velveteen Dream and that he wasn’t going to stop until he got it so he could fulfill his part of the prophecy.
O’Reilly and Fish air footage for everyone to see that prove that the legal man wasn’t pinned in their tag team title match against the Street Profits at TakeOver. They demanded William Regal make it right and give them their rematch, which was announced later in the show that it would happen next week.
As the Undisputed Era went to leave, Jordan Myles showed up with his contract for the title match of his choosing. Cole immediately tried to talk him out of it, suggesting to cash in the contract on anyone other than him. Of course, Myles was having none of it and presented the contract to the champion by dropping it at his feet. The match was made official later in the show to take place in two weeks’ time.
These two men are not strangers to each other due to their history together in Ring of Honor. We’re certain it’s going to be a great main event for the black and gold brand when it occurs soon on the WWE Network.
