Where do the Colts go now without Andrew Luck?
The Indianapolis Colts are reeling with the retirement of Andrew Luck. Where do they go from here? Depends on Jacoby Brissett.
Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard can’t afford to be stunned. Time to make a plan.
With the shocking retirement of Andrew Luck, the Colts find themselves forced to make alternative plans for the future. Luck was supposed to be the quarterback of the next decade in Naptown. Now he’s gone, leaving Jacoby Brissett to take over.
And really, this is where the future begins. Brissett.
At 26 years old, Brissett is entering the final year of his rookie contract. The Colts watched the former North Carolina State star play in 2017, throwing for 3,098 yards and 13 touchdowns against seven interceptions in 15 starts. However, Brissett was behind the league’s worst offensive line. He was also in the first year of a new system, after spending a single season with the New England Patriots.
Brissett is now in his second campaign in head coach Frank Reich’s offense. He’s also behind a terrific front and has weapons around him in tight ends Eric Ebron and Jack Doyle, receivers T.Y. Hilton, Devin Funchess and Parris Campbell, and running back Marlon Mack. Time to make some money before scheduled free agency come March.
If Brissett plays well, it stands to reason Indianapolis will lock him up. If not, the Colts are likely looking at a high draft pick and could be eyeing one of the big names coming out of college next spring, including Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa, Oregon’s Justin Herbert and Georgia’s Jake Fromm.
Regardless, it’s going to be a monumental task trying to replace one of the game’s elite in Luck.
