Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck has dealt with several severe injuries during his young NFL career, but few could have even entertained the thought of him retiring before the start of the 2019 season.

Andrew Luck has overcome concussions, a serious injury to his throwing shoulder and a kidney laceration during his NFL career.

However, after dealing with a mysterious leg injury this offseason, Luck decided to retire from football at the age of 29, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

As the face of the Indianapolis Colts franchise after being their No. 1 overall pick when the Peyton Manning era ended, Luck flashed the ability to be an elite quarterback and even carried the team to the postseason upon his return last season.

Luck didn’t start the season healthy after recovering from a serious shoulder injury, but he eventually looked like his old self despite playing with a supporting cast that lacked depth.

Twitter was absolutely shocked when word of Luck’s retirement broke, and the reactions were befitting of a moment of this magnitude. Luck is one of the most important and talented quarterbacks in the league, and retirement at 29 is always tough to see.

Others were, of course, concerned with their fantasy teams.

And still others were shocked that Luck ended up retiring before RG3, who suffered a serious injury in his rookie year and never reached the same heights as a result. The two were the top players taken in the 2012 NFL Draft class.

Or that he retired before Tom Brady.

One user even noted his brother taking a call about retirement during a wedding. Yes, Luck’s retirement absolutely takes priority here.

Luck’s retirement leaves a huge void in the Colts organization, but they at least have an ideal backup in Jacoby Brissett.

It’s tough to see a player retire early, especially someone with Hall of Fame potential like Luck, but he’s taken so much punishment in his career. Plus, it’s understandable for him to want to walk away from the game after going through so much pain, and he still managed to accomplish plenty in his short time as the Colts franchise quarterback.
