The Arizona Wildcats and the Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors will get the 2019 college football season started with a late night game for most college football fans.

It’s not Pac-12 After Dark, but it’s not NOT Pac-12 After Dark. It technically involves a Pac-12 team and then a team that is based out of the middle of the Pacific Ocean. And for most college football fans, the game between the Arizona Wildcats and the Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors will begin after dark.

So, we’re getting a Pac-12 After Dark game to start the 2019 season. Here’s to hoping for chaos.

Arizona enters the season after a humbling 2018 campaign. The Wildcats had plenty of potential, but things fell apart during the first season of the Kevin Sumlin era out in Tucson. All of the hype of a Heisman quality season in 2018 for Khalil Tate ended after the talented quarterback suffered multiple injuries throughout the season.

But he’s healthy now. Sumlin is more familiar with his team and his team is more familiar with its head coach and his offense. That doesn’t mean that Tate will win the Heisman this year, the Wildcats will have some magnificent season in 2019, but it should mean that Hawai’i will have its hands full in this season opening game.

That said, of the two teams involved in this game, Hawai’i was the only one that qualified for a bowl game last season. The Rainbow Warriors were notably more successful than the Wildcats in 2018, winning 8 games a season ago.

Hawai’i is hoping to take advantage of hosting this game and take down the Wildcats in an upset to start the 2019 season.

Prediction

Despite the fact that Arizona was not good a season ago and they’re probably going to merely be a decent team in 2019, the Wildcats still have a sheer talent advantage over the Rainbow Warriors. Arizona should be able to overcome the home field advantage that Hawai’i will have and win in a game that will likely be closer than many Wildcat fans will want.

Score: Arizona 45, Hawai’i 24
