Manchester United could have won both of their games to start the Premier League season. Instead, Paul Pogba missed a penalty and United had to settle for a draw. On Saturday, United host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford. After a draw in their first game, Palace lost to Sheffield United last weekend.
It doesn’t seem to matter what happens, controversy follows Manchester United. Pogba is facing criticism and racial abuse after he decided to take a penalty over designated penalty taker Marcus Rashford. Pogba missed the penalty and the Red Devils had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Wolves. Anthony Martial scored his second goal of the season, giving him a share of the team lead with Rashford. The duo of Martial and Rashford will lead the attack for United against Palace. The two players have thrived since United decided to move on from Romelu Lukaku.
Full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka will face his former team for the first time on Saturday. United paid €55 million to Palace for Wan-Bissaka. Through two games, the high price appears to be fair, as Wan-Bissaka has been a great addition for United.
Crystal Palace and Watford are the only clubs that have not scored a goal this season. Palace will rely on the front two of Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke. Zaha has been incredible for Palace since returning to the club following a failed stint at United. Over the past three seasons, Zaha has 26 goals and 26 assists.
Conversely, Benteke has been a transfer bust since joining the club from Liverpool for €31.2 million three years ago. Benteke has 19 goals since joining Palace but only four over the past two seasons. The Belgium striker needs to rediscover his scoring touch or it could be a long season for Palace.
