The Serie A season kicks off this weekend. In the marquee game of the weekend, Fiorentina host Napoli at Artemio Franchi Stadium. The Viola finished 16th last season, their worst season since 2011-12. For the second straight season and third in the past four years, Napoli finished second behind Juventus, who won their eighth straight title. The Donkeys will look to shock Juventus and win their first Serie A title since the 1989-90 season.

Fiorentina brought manager Vincenzo Montella back towards the end of last season. Montella had a successful tenure earlier in his career with the Viola but that ended after the club decided to fire him following a third consecutive fourth-place finish. Since leaving Fiorentina, Montella has had very disappointing tenures at AC Milan and Sevilla. Montella will look to rebuild his career as a manager this season.

In his first tenure with Fiorentina, Montella turned over the squad making 17 moves. This summer, Fiorentina have been somewhat quiet. The club added Franck Ribery, Kevin-Prince Boateng, and Erick Pulgar.

Ribery might be 36 years old, but if he can stay healthy, he could thrive in the slower-paced Serie A. The French winger is the most successful player in Bundesliga history, winning nine championships with Bayern Munich. He should form an interesting attacking front with Giovanni Simeone and Federico Chiesa. Both Simeone and Chiesa had extremely disappointing seasons, with each player only scoring six goals, when it looked like they were both poised for breakout seasons.

After finishing 11 points behind Juventus, Napoli made several moves to improve their squad over the summer transfer window. The biggest signing for Napoli was Konstantinos Manolas from Roma to give Carlo Ancellotti one of the best center-back pairings in Europe. Manolas will form a great partnership with Kalidou Koulibaly. Upfront, Napoli will rely on the tandem of Arkadiusz Milik and Dries Mertens to score goals after scoring 33 last season.
