Ohio State football is looking for a third straight Big Ten title. Here are five reasons they make it a three-peat, including faith in Ryan Day and Justin Fields.
At Ohio State, like many of the premier college football programs around the country, when you lose players to the NFL, you don’t rebuild, you reload. This is definitely the case for the Buckeyes this season as while they lose a quarterback, running back and four wide receivers, they will be just fine with talent at every one of those spots in 2019.
Surprisingly, Urban Meyer wasn’t all that great at bringing home the conference throne every season. In fact, going into his final two seasons of an eventual seven-year tenure, Meyer had only one Big Ten title. He finished strong though, giving the Buckeyes a title win over Wisconsin in 2017 and Northwestern last season.
The Buckeyes have ruled the big ten since the turn of the century winning a total of nine Big Ten titles. No one else in the conference has more than three over that time period. There is no reason that dominance shouldn’t continue in 2019.
It’s Ryan Day’s first year at the helm of the Buckeyes, but it doesn’t come without prior head coaching experience. Day led the Buckeyes to wins over Oregon State, Rutgers and TCU and it led the way to him being hired as head coach when Urban Meyer decided to call it quits.
There are almost too many reasons that the Buckeyes to win the Big Ten, but for the sake of everyone’s time, we are only going to list five here.
