AEW’s All Out event takes place on August 31, 2019 in Chicago, IL. Chris Jericho will face Hangman Adam Page to be the first AEW World Champion.

In one of most anticipated matches at AEW‘s All Out, Chris Jericho and Hangman Adam Page are squaring off to go down in the history books as All Elite Wrestling’s first World Champion.

The Buy In pre-show before Double or Nothing had a Casino Battle Royale match to determine one of the wrestlers competing for the title. Hangman pulled the Joker and was the last man to enter. He defeated MJF to move on to the World Championship match. In the main event, Chris Jericho was victorious over Kenny Omega to earn his chance at the title.

The two came face-to-face at Fight for the Fallen when Jericho ambushed Page during his match. Page was bloodied from their encounter. Later in the show, Jericho cut his first unscripted promo in two decades. Jericho put over his opponent as one of the best young talents and mentions that he still has his blood on his hand from earlier in the night. He still wants his “thank you” from AEW. The Ayatollah of Rock ‘n Rolla has been wrestling for two decades in multiple companies. If he loses the World Championship match, what else is left for him? What happens to Jericho next?

On the following Road to All Out, Page cut a fiery promo, easily his best one to date. On Road to All Out episode 7, Jim Ross interviewed Page. He also has something to prove. He also expresses that he has to win this match. He is hellbent on winning, just like Jericho.

We have the classic story of the veteran versus the man trying to make a name for himself. For so long, Jericho has been the top guy. Each time he came back, whether to WWE, NJPW or AEW, he reinvented himself. He is the guy who puts other guys over and makes them look like gold. Page doesn’t need to be put over. He proved how good he is, but a match with Jericho can certainly push him to the next level.

The case for Jericho to be AEW’s inaugural World Champion is obvious: he’s one of the biggest names in the business. Fans who quit watching years ago still know who he is. He may be the reason they tune in. But AEW is built on the concept of fresh talent. They don’t want routine. Page is the kind of wrestler you build a company around. He is fresh, talented, good on the mic and has a great look. If AEW wants to build the stars of today, then Page has to be their first World Champion.

Both men are desperate to go down in history as the first AEW World Champion. Who do you think it will be?
