2. A veteran QB makes all the difference

When Shea Patterson announced he was coming back to the Michigan football program for one more year, he did so for one reason: to beat Ohio State.

He said as much in interviews. He wasn’t going to walk away from it following a 62-39 loss.

That was a tough day for everyone who loves Michigan. It was an embarrassment, a final reminder of the dominance Meyer had over the Wolverines. But now it’s over and done with. UM can’t change the past, only the future and getting revenge is what 2019 is all about.

We all know that no revenge tour or amount of regular-season success will matter unless the Wolverines beat the Buckeyes. Win the first 11 and lose to OSU? Well, that’s still a failure and everyone knows it.

Patterson knows his legacy is on the line. He didn’t do much at Ole Miss and despite playing well in 2018, he didn’t win anything. Quarterbacks are remembered for trophies as much as anything and if Patterson wants to join the likes of Harbaugh as a program great, he has to win The Game.
