How WWE is using Street Profits isn’t working

The Street Profits are former NXT Tag Team Champions who have been appearing on Monday Night Raw for a couple of months and not wrestling. Why?

Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford are the Street Profits. They were the NXT  Tag Team Champions until the August 28 episode. You might not know that if you’ve only seen them on Monday Night Raw. They’ve been used in backstage segments on the red brand since July 1. Why? No one really knows.

One theory is that Vince McMahon wants fans to get to know the Street Profits. At this point, we know they’re fun loving and like to have a good time. Why not let the fans know what they do in the ring?

The Tag Team Turmoil gauntlet match this past Monday would have been the perfect time to introduce them to the Raw  audience. “But they’re on NXT,” you say. With Superstars swapping brands regularly due to the (lame) Wild Card rule, they could have easily used that to let them compete. The women claim they’ll wrestle on any brand, so why couldn’t the Street Profits?

While Street Profits are extremely charismatic, it’s unfortunate that they’re being pigeonholed. While not a complete waste, it is squandering their in-ring talent. They’ve been killing it on NXT  for a couple of years. Once War Raiders (before the Viking Experience mishap) were called up, it was assumed that Street Profits would be the next team to wear tag team gold.

Instead, they came close to winning several times when The Forgotten Sons would cost them the win. At NXT TakeOver XXV there was a ladder match between four teams (Street Profits, Undisputed Era, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch, and Forgotten Sons). On this night, the Street Profits were at their very best. This was the match of their career and they finally took their place as NXT Tag Team Champions.

Since then, they’ve defended their titles on NXT TV on the WWE Network a few times and retained them at TakeOver Toronto. However, they just lost those titles to The Undisputed ERA’s Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly. Enough already. Presumably, this was done because NXT is moving to the USA Network. If that’s the case, leaving the titles on Street Profits would make more sense because of their personality and skills.

Will dropping the titles mean they move to Raw permanently? While that would be great for Street Profits, we know what tends to happen to tag teams in general, but especially NXT call-ups. AOP, anyone? Ford and Dawkins are much too talented to get lost in the shuffle. It’s bad enough that they’re being used in a laughable way already. What does this say about how they’ll he treated if they’ve been called up? If they’re staying on NXT, what’s been the point of all of this?

Street Profits deserve better.

Do you like the way the Street Profits are being used? Have you seen them wrestle or do you only know them from Raw? If so, what’s your impression of them?
