A five-count rundown from this week’s episode of WWE NXT, keeping you up to date on the latest happenings in the black and gold brand.

This week’s edition of NXT saw a big title change in the main event, an excellent rematch six months in the making and a surprise arrival from the NXT UK brand. It was certainly an eventful show.

We cover it all here and then some. So without further ado, this is the NXT 5 Count for August 28.

1. Io Shirai is more dangerous than ever

NXT kicked off the show this week with action in the women’s division as Io Shirai went one-on-one with Cami Fields. Ever since Shirai’s heel turn several weeks ago the woman formally known as the Genius of the Sky has been on a warpath, tearing through the NXT roster in the process.

Fields got in minimum offense as this was pretty much a showcase for Shirai to continue her rise up through the division. It certainly seems like they are setting her up to be the first challenger for whoever ends up dethroning Shayna Baszler somewhere down the line.

The finish came when Shirai hit the moonsault off the top rope and pulled Fields up at the count of two, choosing to beat her by submission instead. The referee had to force her to break the hold after the match was over. It was a dominant win for Shirai and it’s clear they have big plans for her going forward.

Post-match, Shirai grabbed a kendo stick from underneath the ring and was going to attack Fields with it until Candice LeRae showed up to get some revenge and send Shirai running to the back as fast as her legs could carry her. Maybe LeRae will be the one to dethrone Baszler later on this year? We shall see.
