FanSided talked with DC Collectibles’ Jim Fletcher about the 100th Batman Black and White statue and all of the DC Comics division’s exciting initiatives.
The DC Collectibles division is celebrating the 100th statue in the Batman Black and White Collection this summer, but that’s only one of the many exciting things happening at DC Collectibles right now.
FanSided talked with Jim Fletcher, executive creative director at DC Collectibles, about some of the big projects in the works during the Batman 80 celebration at San Diego Comic-Con.
Fletcher was on hand to reveal the newest statue in the Batman Black and White collection. Designed by famed comic book creator Todd McFarlane, this Batman statue commemorates 100 statues in the collection. Fletcher noted that there had been no plan to hit 100 statues in that line, but at one point the team realized they were at 50, and then 75, and so reaching 100 was just the next milestone. And the line isn’t stopping here, as there are many more statues planned with no end in sight.
This year DC Collectibles rolled out a collection of Batman statues at Walmart that retail for $5, and they’re just as detailed as the larger, more expensive statues that are available and this helps make DC Collectibles accessible for every fan across every price point.
Fletcher noted that it doesn’t matter where the price point is — the quality will always be there: “We don’t change our attention to detail if it’s $5 or $400. We did a $5000 brass Batman statue a few years ago. It’s the same process for everything, from design to sculpting.”
One of the statues that got a lot of buzz during Comic-Con was the DC Cover Girls Selina Kyle wedding statue by Joelle Jones. As if the design itself isn’t enough, seeing it rendered as a statue is nothing short of awe-inspiring and it already has fans talking.

In addition to projects like DC Cover Girls, DC Artists Alley is another exciting initiative that has been producing fun collections that have a unique spin on them.
“DC Artists Alley is near and dear to the design team’s heart,” Fletcher said. “We really walk around Artist Alley [at conventions]. That’s literally why it’s called that. Artists Alley is finding people that in some cases have nothing to do with DC, but they have a cool art style that can represent characters in a different way.”
DC Artists Alley alumni include Sho Murase, Joe Ledbetter and Chris Uminga. One of the most recent additions to DC Artists Alley is renowned fan-favorite artist Chrissie Zullo. This series of four figures, featuring Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Supergirl and Hawkgirl, are perfect for fans of all ages.

Fletcher noted that Zullo’s brightly colored collection, along with their very reasonable $60 price point, would work in a little girl’s room as well as on a shelf at home or in an office. Not only are they fun and slightly whimsical renditions of these fan favorite characters, but he pointed out that they’re also “fierce” like their comic book counterparts, noting that Hawkgirl might be smiling but she is also wielding her iconic mace, ready for action.
DC Collectibles is looking ahead to 2020 and beyond with a clear focus on making collectibles for every fan’s budget with a wide range of characters to choose from. And now that the team has complete 100 Batman Black and White statues, you can bet that they have the next milestone in sight.
