MLB Power Rankings: What to expect from each team in the final month of baseball
By Sean Sears
28. Miami Marlins, 48-85, last in the NL East (ranked 27th last week)
The Marlins starting pitching has remained solid behind Caleb Smith and rookie Jordan Yamamoto, helping survive injuries to the rotation and a stretch of bad outings from ace Sandy Alcantara. The Marlins are also trying to find a new closer after moving veteran Sergio Romo at the deadline, reliever Austin Brice would be the ideal candidate had he not hit the IL. But until Brice returns, and possibly even after he returns, the Marlins will be going with a closer by committee approach.
27. Baltimore Orioles, 44-89, last in the AL East (ranked 29th last week)
The Orioles had a real bad Wednesday, first losing to the Yankees 14-2, but 1B Chris Davis and manager Brandon Hyde had a very public altercation in the dugout. Davis had to be restrained by Mark Trumbo and hitting coach Don Long, however, Hyde said they were going to handle the situation internally and had no comment beyond that.
The Orioles have also allowed 52 home runs to the Yankees this season, which is the most a team has hit against a specific in history, and the teams still have four more games to play. Winners of just three of their last 10 games, the Orioles have very little to cheer about right now and the frustration has reached its boiling point in Baltimore.
