Vasiliy Lomachenko vs. Luke Campbell: Live stream and viewing guide
Vasiliy Lomachenko fights in enemy territory when he defends his WBA and WBO titles against England’s Luke Campbell. Here’s how to watch the bout.
On Saturday, Aug. 31, Vasiliy Lomachenko (13-1, 10 KOs) attempts to defend his WBO and WBA lightweight titles against England’s Luke Campbell (20-2, 16 KOs) on Top Rank’s fight card. The vacant WBC title is also on the line which makes this bout pivotal for control of the lightweight division.
Campbell enjoys physical advantages in height and reach over Lomachenko. He will also have the crowd on his side as he fights in London’s O2 Arena which is a two-hour drive from Campbell’s home in Yorkshire.
Despite all the elements on Campbell’s side, he’s a heavy underdog due to Lomachenko’s expert skill set. Lomachenko is widely regarded as one of boxing’s best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
Campbell is a quality boxer, and it will be interesting to see how he fares against the budding legend Lomachenko. Coverage of Lomachenko vs. Campbell begins at 5 p.m ET only on ESPN+.
The undercard features another world title fight between flyweights Charlie Edwards (15-1, 6 KOs) and Julio Cesar Martinez Aguilar (14-1, 11 KOs). Edwards is the reigning WBC champion, and he’s attempting to make the second defense of his title.
The undercard bout with the most buzz features heavyweights Hughie Fury (23-2, 13 KOs) and Alexander Povetkin (34-2, 24 KOs). Fury and Povetkin are at different stages in their careers. Fury is 24 years old and trying to earn a title shot. He dropped two unanimous decisions to Joseph Parker and Kubret Pulev, but he’s young and shows promise. Fury is a skilled boxer. His style resembles that of his cousin Tyson Fury.
Povetkin is nearing the end of his career. He’s 39 years old and was knocked out by Anthony Joshua in his last bout. Povetkin is a former world titlist, but age has diminished his abilities. Fury vs. Povetkin is a classic youth vs. experience matchup. If Fury losses, his career could stall out indefinitely. If Povetkin losses, then his career is likely over.
