Another year of Lane Kiffin football at Florida Atlantic, another daunting opener against a college football powerhouse. The Owls get the 2019 season going by going on the road to face the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus.
Ryan Day is about to start his first season as the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes. However, this is not Day’s first season opener leading OSU. Last year, Day had to step in and act as Ohio State’s interim head coach as Urban Meyer was suspended in the midst of a scandal.
But Meyer is gone now. The controversial coach is now elsewhere and the Buckeyes are now Day’s team full-time. That could lead to Ohio State taking a slight step back this season as Day figures out how to be a head coach.
Last season, Lane Kiffin and the Florida Atlantic Owls tried punching above their weight class and attempted to take down the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman. That flat out didn’t work as the Sooners smoothly cruised to a victory over the Owls.
Kiffin has to be hoping that this match up will pan out differently. The only problem with that for the Owls and for Kiffin is that this OSU team is still a much more talented team than FAU.
Especially since the Buckeyes are probably still the best team in the Big Ten this season.

Prediction
Kiffin and the Owls could be rather intriguing to watch this season as they attempt to win their conference. Against similarly talented teams, FAU could do a great job of competing, and beating, most of its foes.
OSU is not a similarly talented team to Florida Atlantic, however. The Buckeyes may not have Meyer leading them anymore, but due to the talent differential, and the fact that Day was one heck of an offensive coordinator, Ohio State should cruise to an easy victory here.
Score: Ohio State 55, FAU 21
