Week 1 is in the books and the college football rankings are sure to look different following the weekend. What will the AP Top 25 look like this week?

The Week 1 slate of college football wasn’t the most exciting, featuring just one ranked matchup, but there was still plenty of intrigue with upsets like Georgia State over Tennessee and Wyoming over Missouri. And there were near-upsets like Iowa State needing three overtimes to beat Northern Iowa too.

Yes, college football is back in full force and it comes with some excitement and we could see some movement in the first regular season installment of the AP Top 25.

Let’s take a look at what the AP Top 25 could look like after Week 1. Oklahoma and Notre Dame play Sunday and Monday and their place in the projected Top 25 will be updated after their games. The official AP Top 25 for Week 2 will be released Tuesday.

Projected Week 2 AP Top 25

  1. Clemson
  2. Alabama
  3. Georgia
  4. Oklahoma*
  5. Ohio State
  6. LSU
  7. Michigan
  8. Florida
  9. Notre Dame*
  10. Texas
  11. Auburn
  12. Utah
  13. Texas A&M
  14. Washington
  15. Penn State
  16. Oregon
  17. UCF
  18. Wisconsin
  19. Michigan State
  20. Iowa
  21. Syracuse
  22. Washington State
  23. Iowa State
  24. Stanford
  25. Nebraska

While there won’t be a ton of movement after just one ranked battle taking place and that resulting in the only loss from an AP Top 25 team, there could be some shuffling depending on how the media viewed a few wins.

I think the top 10 will remain the exact same and the first movement will come at No. 11 where Auburn jumps from No. 16, swapping places with Oregon who they beat in thrilling fashion, 27-21. Utah will also see a bit of a jump after hitting the road and having its way with BYU, but it’ll only be a spot or two.

That will force teams like Texas A&M and Washington down, but it’s not due to their lack of solid play in Week 1, but rather making room for a team that had a more impressive victory.

Michigan State slides down a spot after the offense mustered only one touchdown against Tulsa. If these rankings were based solely on defense, the Spartans may be No. 1 after holding the Golden Hurricane to minus-73 rushing yards. Wisconsin and Michigan State swap places, though, after the Fighting Jonathan Taylors — er, the Badgers — blew the doors off South Florida on the road.

Iowa State will see a slight drop after needing three overtimes to beat in-state FCS foe Northern Iowa in a shaky performance and Nebraska and Stanford will switch spots after the Cornhuskers struggled to put South Alabama away and the Cardinal beat a tough Northwestern team.

We won’t see any new additions or subtractions from this week’s rankings, but that’s sure to change in Week 2.
